Kathryn E. McGoldrick, M.D. completed her residency in Anesthesiology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard and a fellowship in Pediatric Anesthesiology at Childrens Hospital/ Harvard. She served on the medical faculty of Harvard and later was Professor of Anesthesiology at Yale and Medical Director of Ambulatory Surgery at Yale-New Haven Hospital. Since 2001 she has served as Professor and Chair of Anesthesiology at New York Medical College.

Dr. McGoldrick has been named to Best Doctors in America on multiple occasions. She has published extensively in the medical literature and has lectured widely nationally and internationally. She has spoken in every continent except Antarctica. She is the author of more than 80 book chapters and 60 journal articles, and editor or sole author of seventeen books.

For 13 years, Dr. McGoldrick was Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the American Medical Women’s Association and for the past 18 years (and currently) has been Editor-in-Chief of Survey of Anesthesiology. She has won national literature awards for her poetry and essays. In 2006 she was the recipient of the David M. Little Prize from the Anesthesia History Association for a book she co-edited, titled The American Society of Anesthesiologists: A Century of Challenges and Progress. She is Associate Editor of Clinical Decision Support: Anesthesia and is on the Editorial Board of Current Reviews in Clinical anesthesia.

Dr. McGoldrick served as President of the Connecticut State Society of Anesthesiologists, and President of the Academy of Anesthesiology, a group whose active membership is limited to 75 anesthesiologists worldwide. She was President of the Board of Trustees of the Wood Library-Museum of Anesthesiology, the pre-eminent institution of its kind in the world. She has been President of the Society for Ambulatory Anesthesia, has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research, and the Executive Committee of the International Association for Ambulatory Surgery.

She has been the recipient of numerous awards, including commendation by The Society of Eye Surgeons of the International Eye Foundation, as well as the Silver Medal from the Faculty of Anaesthetists of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. She has received the Distinguished Service Award of the Society for Ambulatory Anesthesia, and is a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. She was the honored speaker for the Robert Hustead Memorial Lecture of the Ophthalmic Anesthesia Society and, has been honored with a biographical film of her life by the Wood Library Museum Living History of Anesthesiology project.

She has been a volunteer with Project Hope; in Armenia after the 1988 earthquake; with the American Society of Anesthesiologists Overseas Teaching Program at the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Center in Moshi, Tanzania; and in Leon, Nicaragua.
