Future Meetings

Meeting Venue

The meeting will be held at the Wood Library-Museum (housed within the American Society of Anesthesiologists Headquarters) at 1061 American Lane, Schaumburg, IL 60173. All meeting presentations will be given on-site. Here, attendees will see the WLM library, rare book room, and exhibits.  It will also be the location of our Thursday evening dinner including a presentation by a local speaker on Chicago area history with a focus on medical history.

Arrival

All attendees should try to arrive in Schaumburg before 1:00pm on Thursday, April 25.

Automobile – Proceed directly to the Courtyard by Marriott Chicago Schaumburg/Woodfield Mall, 1311 American Lane, Schaumburg, IL 60173

Air – Attendees are encouraged to use O’Hare Airport, which is much closer to Schaumburg than Midway Airport. Transportation from O’Hare to Schaumburg using Uber/Lyft is usually less expensive than taxi. A rental car should not be necessary unless attendees have plans outside of the meeting.

Lombard, Illinois Tour (included in registration)

A coach will leave the Courtyard at 1:00pm on Thursday for a 3-hour round trip to historic Lombard, IL (13 miles due south). In Lombard, we’ll explore the offerings of the Lombard Historical Society (lombardhistory.org). This will include a sneak peek at the “Annie”-Versary exhibit, celebrating one hundred years of Little Orphan Annie in her hometown. Across the street, Lilacia Park should provide evidence for Lombards’ nickname, “The Lilac Village”. Light snacks and beverages will be provided. The coach will shuttle to the Sheldon Peck home, an 1839 structure owned by the Historical Society with exhibits on the Underground Railroad and on the Peck family’s folk art.  The coach will return to the Courtyard in Schaumburg at 4:00pm.

Hotel

The conference hotel is the Courtyard by Marriott Chicago Schaumburg/Woodfield Mall, 1311 American Lane, Schaumburg, IL 60173.  A block of rooms has been reserved for meeting attendees from Wednesday, April 24 to Sunday, April 28. The special rate of $115 (excluding tax) includes breakfast each day. The hotel graciously provides shuttle service as needed within a few miles of the hotel. The shuttle van capacity is 11 passengers, so several trip will usually be necessary. The hotel is 0.3 miles from the meeting site, a short 8-minute walk according to Google maps (weather permitting).

New WLM Collections Facility

Like most museums, the WLM only displays a small sampling of its holdings. For many years, the WLM has rented space to house its extensive collections. In 2022, the WLM embarked on creating a state-of-the-art facility that will serve the WLM for many years to come. Friday afternoon will feature a tour of this work in progress at 711 East State Parkway (1.3 miles NW of ASAHQ).

Wildfire Restaurant

Dinner on Friday will be at Wildfire Restaurant (1250 E. Higgins Road). Shuttle service will be provided between the Courtyard and Wildfire (0.8 miles due south).

Cantigny Park ($50)

Attendees are encouraged to come on an optional excursion at the conclusion of the meeting. A coach will leave the Courtyard at 11:00am on Saturday for a 4+-hour round trip to Cantigny Park (20 miles to the southwest). Here, we’ll enjoy a box lunch on the grounds before entering the First Division Museum. This well-regarded museum looks at the storied history of the longest continuously serving division of the US Army from World War I to the present day. The coach will drop off passengers at Chicago O’Hare Airport departure terminals before 3:00pm and return to the Courtyard in Schaumburg before 4:00pm.
