Education Opportunity for history of medicine enthusiasts:

Notice: The Department of the History of Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University now offers 2 CME courses online in the History of Medicine, designed to provide a historical perspective on issues of relevance to clinical practice today. In these self-paced modules, short videos and self-study questions built by Hopkins faculty guide the learner through key topics using compelling examples and up-to-date analysis. “Professionalism in Historical Context” explores the long history of the concept of professionalism central to medicine today, while the “History of Global Health” demonstrates how current institutions and practices of global health are the products of a history from 18th century colonial medicine through 20th century international health programs. Each of the courses earns 2 AMA Category 1 Credits. For further information, please see: https://www.hopkinshistoryofmedicine.org/content/cme [hopkinshistoryofmedicine.org].

Dr. Sukumar Desai recently completed these two brief online courses and sent the following assessment. “The courses offer CME credits to physicians who are interested in obtaining such credit, but more important, offer a fair amount of useful information related to history of medicine. Moreover, the material gives us an idea of how professional medical historians view subject matter. Individuals who finish these courses may be interested in pursuing formal training in History of Medicine, and their department offers Certificate and Masters Programs as well.”
